Christine Bian, our incredibly talented prop designer, has started a Tumblr blog to showcase her exquisite animal drawings. I love this Naga piece, but do yourself a favor and check out her other work too.
This seems like a fitting reblog, after the last reblog.
Young Korra and Naga~
How do I draw animals
I’ve been chipping away at this one, bit by bit, for a few weeks. Living with the official Naga model, my dog, was certainly a big help. He often strikes a majestic, epic pose on the porch, staring into his vast domain. This is a tribute to him, the quiet observer.
We put together some artwork for these giant decals to decorate our two production areas in the Burbank studio. My favorite is this life-size one of Naga & Korra. That’s the same look my dog gives me 90% of the time, and now I can see it towering over the cubicles every time I step outside my office.
Great costumes, cool light-up glove, cute Naga plush, and I think I spy a Ramona Flowers snapping a pic in the background.
OK, now we’re twinsies, Joaquim! Naga is ready to party with Bolin in style.
Happy Premiere Day, everyone!
P.S. Ha! I knew there would be people responding, “Why isn’t she wearing a dress?” What is this, 1950? Because she wanted to be twinsies with Bolin, because a black & white tuxedo looks great on a black & white polar bear-dog, and because she isn’t bound by social constructs. And I don’t share her taste for musicals, but she is a fan of Cabaret.
Well, the big premiere of The Legend of Korra is tomorrow at 11:00 AM on Nickelodeon. Thanks to this digital age, I suppose the vast majority of you checking out this blog have seen these first two episodes already, but it is still an exciting day for Mike and me and the rest of Team Korra as we return to TV and have a chance to connect with a new audience outside of the (fantastic) existing fan base. Thanks again for all of your incredible support and enthusiasm over all the years leading up to this premiere!
Naga is above just because I’m too tired to draw something relevant, I wanted an image to pair with this message, and this image was on my hard drive. And I love Naga. She’s been waiting 10 years for her big debut!
P.S. GAH! I just saw that Joaquim drew something new for his premiere post. CURSE YOU, 2-CENTS!
Sorry, everyone. We aren’t going to premiere the episodes online tomorrow, or on TV on April 14 anymore. Now that I’ve seen this piece of fan art, we are scrapping everything and redoing Book 1 of Korra in this style. It should be ready to air in two years or so.
This is one of the greatest things I’ve ever seen. Though cold and snowy, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. THANK YOU, KAMINARAI!
EDIT: Wow… Lighten up, guys! I was trying to convey in a playful way how much I like this art. Would you rather I wrote dry stuff like, “I am Bryan Konietzko, and I like this art”? Maybe I should mirror this blog with a really dry version. Anyway, some of you are missing the important point: THIS ART RULES! BE HAPPY!
Chibi Naga, round two, in color! Just did this while sitting in a long video conference… which is still under way…
