Congratulations to Jeremy Zuckerman on yesterday’s release of his soundtrack The Legend of Korra: Original Music From Book One. After the years-long battle to get Jeremy’s music released, it is incredibly vindicating to see this album climb and top the charts (currently sitting at #1 in Soundtracks and #5 in Pop on Amazon).
This is a photo I took last week of Jeremy, the composer, in his studio with Hong Wang, the multi-instrumentalist behind the nuanced performances of many of the traditional Chinese instruments featured in the Korra score. Mike and I are indebted to the talents and hard work of these two brilliant men.
P.S. If you will be at San Diego Comic-Con and would like to meet Jeremy, come to the Korra soundtrack signing at the Nickelodeon Booth this Saturday, from 3:00–4:00. Mike DiMartino, Benjamin Wynn, the sound designer on Korra and Jeremy’s partner in the The Track Team, and I will be there too signing CDs (which were printed too dark and dull…).
Mike and I did a LOOOOOONG overdue interview with Avatarspirit.net, a loooooong-running premiere fansite for the stuff he and I have created together. These are fan-driven questions about Korra Books 1 & 2, and more. I hope you enjoy it!
WOW! IGN gave the show some love!
Indeed! Glowing review from IGN about the Blu-ray release of Korra (Nickelodeon’s first Blu-ray. Also out on vintage DVD). The Blu-ray has commentary for all 12 episodes of Book 1 (the DVD, as I understand it, has some of them but not all).
However, despite what is written in the article, as I recall it we met Seychelle at a wakeboarding competition…
The Legend of Korra: Original Music From Book One: Composed by Jeremy Zuckerman, our first soundtrack release EVER, is now available for pre-order on iTunes. Benjamin Wynn, the other half of the Track Team, was going through old photos last night and texting me some gems. Among the good memories was this snapshot of a bright-eyed and bushy-tailed Jeremy Zuckerman at Ben’s workstation in the house Ben and I rented together in Burbank. As best we can figure, this is from late 2003 when Jeremy and Ben were working on the music and sound design for the pilot of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Ben took this picture standing at my workstation, where Mike and I sat on my computer and took turns typing up the first treatment for Avatar about a year and a half earlier than this photo was taken.
Jeremy and Ben were both marveling at how humble their setup was when they started working on this project over ten years ago compared to their amazing studios now (here is Jeremy’s and here is Ben’s). It warms my heart to look at this photo and think about all that we have created together, and how much we have grown in our respective crafts. Congratulations again to Jeremy on this release of beautiful music! Love you, brother!
We just received an exclusive song snippet from The Legend of Korra: Original Music From Book One!
The full soundtrack will be released on July 16th, but you can preorder it now from Amazon!
A little preview from the Korra soundtrack!
I’ve been listening to the whole soundtrack while I work and it is such an incredible album. JEREMY ZUCKERMAN RULES!
Mike and I are excited, elated, proud, relieved, and a bunch of other emotions to *FINALLY* announce the release of a soundtrack of Jeremy Zuckerman’s score from Book 1 of The Legend of Korra. I can’t begin to summarize the 9-year struggle we have endured to get any sort of a soundtrack released. We love Jeremy’s music deeply, and we know the fans do too, so it has been an incredibly frustrating wait and battle to make this a reality. All of the online petitions for an Avatar: The Last Airbender soundtrack were an amazing show of support from thousands of people and greatly appreciated, but for so long it seemed to be in vain as the idea of a soundtrack was blocked at a bureaucratic impasse.
Gratefully, thanks to the tireless efforts of some key people inside and outside of Nickelodeon who championed this project for many years, it is finally happening. Now, we are very aware that those petitions were for an Avatar soundtrack, which has yet to see the light of day. Firstly, we are lucky to get any sort of music release to happen, and secondly, our hope is that the Korra Book 1 soundtrack will be a success and show the company that there is a real demand for other music releases, Avatar included.
And a *HUGE* thank to Jeremy for his incredible scores. We are honored and lucky to get to work with a composer so immensely talented and dedicated. Congratulations on the release!

Mike and I received an advance copy of the first Korra art book from Dark Horse today! Looks great. There’s Ryu flipping through the pages, walking down memory lane. It is breaking my heart that this won’t be available until something like *one week* after this year’s San Diego Comic Con. ARGH!
Part two of our Korra Book 1 foley demo series!
Hey guys, sorry I haven’t posted much lately. Hopefully I’ll get a pass since it is due to being busy making Korra.
Here’s another collection of soloed foley audio from Book 1 of Korra from Aran Tanchum for your enjoyment!
I’m excited to share with you the final cover art (Korra drawn by Joaquim Dos Santos and painted by me, with a background painting by Fred Stewart) for the upcoming Korra Book One: Air art book, published by our good friends at Dark Horse Books. This was a real labor of love (heavy on the labor) for Mike, Joaquim, and me and all those who helped as we put this book together, and we are so proud of all the great artists’ work inside and can’t wait to share it with all of you. The plan is to do one of these art books per “book” of Korra (so four total), which is daunting yet fantastic.

Here is the back cover art for the Book 1 DVD/Blu-ray coming out July 16th, 2013, or at least, this was how I intended it to look. Tenzin and Lin had to be moved elsewhere to make room for type and graphics. Drawn by Ryu Ki Hyun, colored be me.
Here is the cover art for the Legend of Korra Book 1 DVD/Blu-Ray that Ryu Ki Hyun drew and I colored. It will be released on July 16th, 2013. Here’s a link to an IGN article with more info.

Korra Art Of Book!
I believe the term is “shut and take my money”
Yes, it is true! We are excited to announce that we are currently working on an art book, with Dark Horse again, for Book One of Korra (in fact, I have to work on it tonight). This *is not* the cover, though. We just used the press art from the finale as a temporary cover for solicitation purposes. Joaquim and I are still cooking up the real cover…
